Introducing the CLEAN Chemicals Podcast

Read Time: 3-minutes

Hey everyone, happy Saturday!

I have some exciting news to share that I’ve been working on for the past few months.

About six months ago, someone suggested I launch a podcast. After giving it some thought, I’m thrilled to announce that starting next year, I’ll be hosting “CLEAN Chemicals with Aaron Lee”.

I’m aiming to release episodes every other week, but we’ll see how the schedule evolves as we get started.

The podcast has three main aims:

  • Demystify chemicals

  • Introduce innovative chemicals

  • Provide an insider’s view of the supply chain

So why am I starting this podcast? Well, there are a few reasons…

Firstly, chemicals often get a bad rap. While some concerns are valid, there seems to be a stigma against all chemicals, which there doesn’t need to be.

I think the adage that “people fear what they don’t understand” rings true here. This podcast gives us an opportunity to understand why a chemical is used in a product so we can make more informed decisions.

Secondly, since launching Alchem I’ve had the privilege of connecting with many small businesses and research scientists whom I just didn’t have the exposure to when working in bigger organisations.

These people are either working on some incredible technologies, changing the game in terms of ethics and sustainability, or providing vital products for the market.

It’s possible they would never get the recognition they deserve, or the chance to talk about what they are doing and why they are doing it. This podcast will give them a platform to do just that and be celebrated for the incredible work they are doing.

Finally, things like COVID and the Red Sea crisis have shown how much we take our everyday products for granted. Behind the scenes is a complex global supply chain which is responsible for getting the products we use on a day-to-day basis to our door.

The podcast will look to unravel that a little more, again allowing us to make more informed decisions around ethics and sustainability, but also appreciate the level of work going into a lot of our consumables.

I'm excited to share that I already have a number of incredible individuals lined up to be on the podcast, including:

  • A founder of a beauty brand: Bringing insights into ethical practices and innovation in the beauty industry.

  • A founder of a food & beverage company: Sharing experiences in creating allergen-free products and the importance of chemistry in food safety.

  • A leader from an environmentally friendly water treatment business: Focused on decarbonising the water treatment supply chain.

  • A research scientist specialising in carbon-neutral production: Exploring advancements toward sustainability in chemical manufacturing.

  • An innovator in laundry and disinfection science: Introducing groundbreaking technologies that could revolutionise the industry.

  • The CEO of a leading industry association: Offering insider perspectives on the chemical industry's current landscape and future direction.

  • A regulatory expert: Providing insights into the laws and guidelines that shape how chemicals are produced and used.

I've also invited guests who, while not strictly "in" the chemical industry, can offer valuable insights into how it intersects with other sectors. Their alternative perspectives will help us understand the broader impact of chemicals in various aspects of our lives.

I'll share more information over the coming weeks, including a launch date. The podcast will be available in video format and on all the usual platforms for listening to podcasts.
